Rev. Mark Cheetham, Minister

Rev. Mark Cheetham

Mark has had pastoral responsibility for Brighouse Central Methodist Church since Sept 2014.

He and his wife Mariet have a new-born son, Nathaniel.

Mark loves sharing ‘knowing God’ with those around him; helping people and churches find their way in life.

He also loves all things music (especially Bon Jovi and Beethoven), watching rugby (Leicester Tigers) and gardening.

Laura Braime, Lay Pastor

Laura Braime

Lay Pastor

I have been employed by Calderdale Methodist Circuit as Lay Pastor to work across Brighouse Central Methodist Church and Stones Methodist Church in Ripponden.

I live with my husband and two young boys, who keep me very busy. I love family days out, attempting to grow fruit and vegetables at the allotment, and good coffee – enjoyed best with friends.

Alongside work and family life, I am involved with some community organisations, including a pantomime society and The Scout Association.

I am very excited to develop the role and work with the circuit and churches as we journey together in faith.

Val Eggleton, Steward

Val Eggleton

Val’s interests include BASH local (Brighouse and surrounding homeless), helping at Open Door lunches, supporting those vulnerable or on the ‘edge of society.’ Regular supplies of strong coffee, in VERY large cups, talking to Val about education, running, books, (member of a local book group), or how to avoid venturing out on a European tour on her husband Steve’s, (very large) motor bike will grab her attention. A very new grandma to Oliver, Val is renewing her acquaintance with nursery rhymes and all things baby related. Mum to two daughters, Jo (Oliver’s mum) and Sarah. A sincere and devout love of God and a will to support and develop Central for the Brighouse community for the future are her driving forces

Val McLeod, Enabler

Val McLeod

Val was born in Newcastle on Tyne and attended the Presbyterian church, firstly there and later in Coventry. Whilst living in Worcester she was invited to a Methodist church and subsequently became a committed member. After moving to Yorkshire she joined Central Methodist Church and is involved in many aspects of church life, including the choir, Centralpedes, tap dancing and is Church Council Secretary.

Val is married to Robert and has 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Currently she teaches English as a foreign language, but formerly taught German.

Janet Ratcliffe, Pastoral Secretary

Janet Ratcliffe

Pastoral Secretary

Janet has been a member of Central for approximately 20 years and over that time has joined the flower team, taken on the role of JMA secretary and more recently Pastoral secretary. Married to Gordon with a 24-year-old daughter called Kate, Janet recently retired as a social work tutor with the Open University and has since taken on the responsibility of 2nd Vice Chairman of the North East Area of National Association of Flower Arranging Societies (NAFAS) replacing academia withAlchemilla mollie! Janet says that her faith challenges her on a daily basis, as well as her love of food and chocolate! She would love to be able to say that spare time activities include sky-diving and F1 racing but it’s more like gardening, reading and cooking!

Chris Tolson, Steward

Chris Tolson

Chris and wife Wendy now live in nearby Halifax but continue to worship at Central – not daring to stray too far from Brighouse. Chris is coming to terms with the lack of free time that retirement inevitably brings but still doing his best to support the Leadership Team as it strives to make a difference to an institution that has always played a major part in his life – in the hope that it can do so for others who do not yet know it. After a career in the property ‘industry’, he also helps with a small team of similar retired professionals who assist the Calderdale Methodist Circuit with the increasing workload of dealing with property issues as the Methodist Church tries to refocus itself for the future – around breaks motor-homing and keeping up with family.

Susan Yates, Steward

Susan Yates

Born into a loving Christian family, Susan originally attended Illingworth Moor Methodist Church where her parents served as caretakers for over 40 years. Marrying George in 1970, they moved to Brighouse subsequently brought up 3 children. Sadly George passed away quite suddenly and much too early. Susan now enjoys her grandchildren, even moreso since her retirement from being a Teaching Assistant for over 28 years. Susan enjoys gardening, walking, knitting and reading and thanks God for the way He has guided her life. She feels privileged to serve as a church steward as the church moves forward into an exciting new era.
